Tick and Dog Relationships

Most people are into relationships for what they can get, not to what they can give. Thus, some couples have a relationship like a tick and a dog. But imagine the problems when the relationship is between two ticks. True love is in a relationship for what it can give, not get.

Living by Vows

Many people divorce because ''we just can't communicate any more" or "she mate no longer meets my needs.'' In stark contrast to this attitude, Robertson McQuilkin gave up the presidency of Columbia International University to better serve his wife. Because of the ravages of Alzeimer's Disease, she can no longer provide the understanding, communication, and services that once defined their relationship. She can't even speak in sentences, much less cook a meal or share a good book or movie. But she can say "I love you," and she says it often. Many told him that he should put her in a hospital, that he could never meet her needs. But he knew that she was frightened when he was gone but when he was there. So he dropped everything to care for her. Dr. McQuilkin doesn't consider his devotion unusually heroic. ''It was a matter of integrity,'' he writes. ''Had I not promised, 42 years before, 'in sickness and in health...till death do us part'?'' He also saw it as only fair. After all, hadn't she taken care of him and the family through the years. Now it was simply his turn. So this brilliant Christian leader left a fulfilling, prominent career to feed, bathe and hold the hand of Muriel, who could no longer care for herself. A Skeptic is Softened Through Love

A skeptic who taught in a University Philosophy department told a Christian student, "You know, there's this Christian lady that lives behind me, really loves me, cooks stuff for me, is kind, and helps me out. Defining

We use the word ?love? in so many ways, that it often loses its meaning. I heard of a young boy in elementary school who found the courage to let a classmate know his feelings for her. He passed her a note in class that read, ?Cathy, I like you. Do you like me? Love, David.? To which she replied, ?No, I hate you. Love, Cathy.?

I Forgot None of Them

On love being other-centered, expecting nothing in return: There was once a young boy was not popular at all in school. He was a loner who always got off the bus last. But the next day was Valentine?s Day, and he decided to make a Valentine for every person in class, so that they would all know that he loved them. He worked hard till he completed them all. As he got on the bus that Valentine?s Day morning, he was double-checking the valentines to make sure he had left no one out. His mother, worried that no one would give him a valentine in return, made lots of cookies and things to greet him with upon his return from school. She watched him get off the bus, and sure enough, all the others seemed to be loaded with valentines, but her son had none. He burst through the door saying, ?Not a one!? ?Not a one!? ?I forgot none of them and now they all know I love them. (Lost source)

Michelangelo Sees Angel in Marble

It is said that Michelangelo was looking at samples of marble when he came across a block with a black streak running through it. Another person passed it by, not seeing any worth in the tainted stone. But Michelangelo saw it through different eyes and exclaimed, ?There?s an angel in that marble,? and proceeded to sculpt it. Lawyer Joke

So there was this truck driver who had this thing about lawyers. He used to amuse himself by swerving to try to hit any lawyers that he saw walking along the side of the road. Upon hearing the satisfying ?thump? on the side of his car, he would swerve back onto the road and be on his way. One day, he saw a priest trying to hitch a ride. He pulled over to do his good deed for the day, asking the priest where he was headed. ?Only about five miles down the road,? replied the priest. ?My car broke down and I?d really appreciate the lift.? The relieved priest climbed aboard and the truck driver began moving on down the road. Suddenly the truck driver saw a lawyer walking down the road and instinctively swerved to hit him. At the last moment he remembered his holy passenger and swerved back, just in time to miss the lawyer. But much to his dismay, he still heard a loud ?thud? as he passed. Confused, he glanced in his mirrors, and when he didn?t see anything, he turned to the priest and said, ?I?m sorry Father. I almost hit that lawyer.? ?That?s okay,? replied the priest. ?I got him with my door.?

Friends Show Love

A teenage boy in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, had cancer and was in the hospital for several weeks to undergo radiation treatments and chemotherapy. During that time, he lost all of his hair. On the way home from the hospital, he was worried, not so much about the cancer, but about the embarrassment of going back to school with a bald head. He had already decided not to wear a wig or a hat. When he arrived home, he walked in the front door and turned on the lights. To his surprise, about fifty of his schoolmates jumped up and shouted, ?Welcome Home!? He looked around the room and could hardly believe his eyes. All fifty of them had shaved their heads!
