Scriptural Basis for Kissing

A boy and girl had been dating for months, committed to do only on a date what they could justify in Scripture. In all these months, they had never kissed. They knew that the "greeting with a holy kiss" in the bible was merely a cultural greeting. Finally the girl decided she needed a kiss really bad, so Friday afternoon before her boyfriend arrived to pick her up, she searched her Topical Bible and Concordance. As soon as the doorbell rang, she threw open the door and planted a big smooch squarely on his lips. Startled, her boyfriend asked, "So what about all that stuff we decided about having a Scriptural basis?" She immediately quoted: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Stats on Violence in Dating

One in five high school girls reports having been physically or sexually abused by a dating partner. A report by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that 22% of high school students are victims of non sexual dating abuse, with girls slightly more likely to report being victims. This figure mirrors the national average, though statistics show younger women are more frequently abused -- perhaps due to more dating partners. The study also shows a shocking number of teenage boys "have adopted attitudes that men are entitled to control their girlfriends through violence." In addition, participants were asked about other risky behaviors. Those who have been victims were eight to nine times more likely to have attempted suicide in the previous year, four to six times more likely to have been pregnant, three to five times more likely to have used cocaine, and three to four times more likely to have some form of eating disorder. While researchers are unclear of the cause effect relationship in this correlation, lead author Jay Silverman of Harvard University's School of Public Health believes the violence came first.
