Surprising Sex Stats

Although most students think that most of their peers are into a life style of sex, surveys tell us that over 70% of 15 year old girls have never had sex! And if you don't count the ones that had it forced on them, you're up to about 80% who have never had voluntary sex. That's more than 8 girls in every 10. And of the 20% who have had sex, how many had it only once, or had it with a boyfriend and later stopped after deciding it wasn't a good idea? Clearly few 15 year old girls are regularly having sex. But like Elijah, many have been deceived into believing they are the only ones left! (Study the stats put out by the Centers for Disease Control to find these stats.)

Motives for Sex

Although many people talk about love in order to get sex, love often has nothing to do with it. This is how the Planned Parenthood pole came out. The reasons, in order of frequency given, were (reveal them one at a time.) #1 - Peer pressure. #2 - Curiosity. #3 - Thinking "everybody else is doing it." #4 - Sexual gratification. Only one in twenty guys gave their motive as love. Yet, girls overwhelmingly responded that their motive was out of love for the guy. Girls need to reflect hard on this. A lot of guys talk about love in order to get sex. And a lot of girls give sex to try to get love. The guys get their gratification. The girls often get a broken heart.

Date Rape

In a study of 5,000 women college students, over one in four had been raped or sexually attacked since the age of 14. That's scary. But the really sobering part is this. In a Kent State study, over half (57%) of the women who had been raped had been raped by their dates. (McDowell, 22,23)

Sex Stats from 1940's to Today

People have always had hormones. But in the late 1940s only 3 out of 100 16 year old girls had had sex. (Compare 40 out of 100 16 year old girls today. Over 13 times as many!) We?ve just allowed our culture press us into its mold.

Kids Say No

A survey was taken in an Atlanta school system, asking students what they wanted most out of a sex-education program. The number one, overwhelming response? "How to say no to physical involvement." (McDowell, Why Wait? p. 26)

Don't Find Out For Yourself

I heard of one youth minister who told all his guys to stand up and put their hands behind their back on their butts. They kind of obeyed hesitatingly, not knowing where he was taking them with this. Then he announced, ?That?s exactly what a girl?s butt feels like, so you don?t have to go find out for yourself!

Most Not Having Sex

Contrary to much public opinion, most high school students are not having sex. This is extremely important information to get out to our youth, since the overwhelming reason that teens give for having sex is "peer pressure." (1986 Planned Parenthood Survey) High schoolers, although your close friends may be into sex, and try to convince you that "everybody's doing it," don't believe that lie! The fact is that your sexually active friends, not you, are in the minority. Most high school students are not doing it. The latest report from the U.S. Department of Health and Human services shows that less than half of high school students have ever had sex even once. And even less are currently (34.8% in the last three months) involved. Married Sex is Best

Much of the media leads us to believe that people who don't fool around are missing out. And those who stay faithful to their marriage partner sometimes wonder if they are missing out. But according to an authoritative study of Sex in America (not a Christian based study), and I quote: "Those having the most partnered sex and enjoying it most are married people. The young single people who flit from partner to partner and seem to be having a sex life that is satisfying beyond most people's dreams are, it seems, mostly a media creation. In real life, the unheralded, seldom discussed world of married sex is actually the one that satisfies people the most." (Sex in America, A Definitive Study, by Robert T. Michael, John H. Gagnon, Edward O.
